Dreaming of Being Stabbed

I dreamed I was looking after a class of nine year old school kids. We were at someone's house watching a movie. Suddenly, a boy (known to me in real life) picked up a knife that was on the coffee table. I tried to talk him into putting it down since it was very unsafe. Then he lunged at me and stabbed me through the hand. When I looked though, there was no mark. I went back to school and tried to tell the administration what had happened. It was hard to talk and they didn't believe me.

In this dream, the predominant images that stood out to me were stabbing, knife, and hand.

Dreaming of being stabbed often means you are open or vulnerable to being hurt.

A knife is a symbol of the severance of something or someone. This can be a cutting away of something no longer essential.

In my dream, what was cut was the palm of my right hand. As a body part, the hands signify the power or creativity of the individual. The right hand, especially, represents power while the left hand is associated with passivity. A wound through the palm of the hand is suggestive of the image of the crucifixion of Jesus, nails through the hand.

This dream can be directly related to something that happened in my waking life at work. I felt powerless and accused by a student and was unsure of the support of my administration. Interestingly, this dream happened awhile after the event, but I guess my subconscious was still trying to work the issue out. I liked the positive outcome of the dream that though I was stabbed I came out of it unscathed. Usually I have teacher dreams like this at the beginning of school... Can anyone else relate?

Dreaming of Kites

I am flying through the air on a kite. My body is the frame, my arms are tied to the corners of the kite but I don't feel bound. I love the feeling of soaring. It is a beautiful, sunny day. When I look down I can see that a man is holding the string attached to the kite, essentially flying me. It's okay, I'm not worried. Then another man takes over. He and his friend laugh as he unspools the string so I go higher and higher into the sky. Now, I'm worried as I look down to the ground. I am way too high, I don't like the feeling. I convince the man to let me down. I land safely on the ground.

Usually, people dream of flying kites themselves. This kind of dream deals with feelings about new pursuits or ventures. You are in control. If the kite crashes to the ground, this may indicate that things won't turn out well. If the string breaks, your venture may not be under your control anymore.

Kites usually represent a playful time in childhood with positive connotations.

It seems to be a variation of a flying dream. In these dreams you feel euphoric, like you can overcome anything. But in contrast, To dream of flying on a kite suggests that something comes with strings attached. Someone is literally pulling the strings behind the scenes. You are not in control.

Dreaming of a Hotel

wikimedia

I'm in an expensive city hotel. In my room there are girls I went to high school with. Some of them are in the jacuzzi that is in the middle of the room. I feel insecure and judged.

While dreaming of a house suggests exploration of your inner psyche, dreaming of a hotel can represent occupation with your external more public self. It could mean you desire an escape from yourself or that you are in, or wish to be in, a more unsettled, temporary situation.

The condition of the hotel you dream about could shed some more light on the meaning of your dream. If your hotel is chic and expensive you could be desirous of these things in your life. Whereas, a hotel in an old, or dilapidated condition could represent unhappiness with your material possessions.

Hotels are public places and in your dreams will usually be populated with people in your life, ranging from family members to acquaintances, to strangers you may have seen. In my dream above, being in a hotel room with classmates from high school gives me an opportunity to sort out feelings of insecurity I might have in my daily life.

Dreaming of A Baby

image from wikimedia.org

A friend told me this dream: I dreamed I had a baby I was taking care of. He was covered in excrement. I was trying to clean it off.

When people dream of a baby the temptation is to take the dream literally, especially if you're a woman. Does it mean you're going to have a baby? Not necessarily because the baby symbol can also be interpreted metaphorically.

A baby can symbolize new birth or creation of something new in your life.

People often refer to a project as "my baby" inferring something near and dear to their heart. To dream that the baby is your own suggests you have control over the project. To dream you are taking care of someone else's baby implies that you feel burdened with responsibility that is not your own.

The behaviour or needs of the baby suggest what aspects you may be experiencing with your project. For example, an crying baby could mean you should attend more closely to the project. A baby covered in excrement could represent the feeling that the project needs to be "cleaned up" in some way.

If you've ever had a "baby" dream please comment and share below.

Dreaming of Surfboards

In my dream I am walking down a city street to the beach. There are many cross walks and I'm supposed to wear a seatbelt. I decide I can cross without it but I am careful to wait for the walk signal. Once I get to the beach (a beautiful turquoise ocean)a young girl is coaching me on how to use a surf board. I feel excited and not nervous at all. We are waiting to join a group of women for more coaching and discussion but I decide I can probably just start to do it. When the girl and I put our surfboards in the water the dream ends.

To dream of a surfboard symbolizes going with the flow of things or going along for the ride. Like cars and other vehicles, it is also a means of transportation. You can't really control where a surfboard goes, you just have to ride out the wave.

The ocean, like other bodies of water, is a symbol for one's emotions. Waves suggest turbulence while a calm sea represents tranquility. (See my other posts about water for more information).

The young girl symbol pops up in my dreams from time to time and I'm never sure if she is one of my daughters or a younger me. Whoever she is, she is a guide figure. Maybe she's helping me to get in touch with my inner child?

Crossing a street could represent putting yourself into harms way. In my dream I decided to forgo some of the safety equipment provided in order to cross by myself. Going down a street could mean you are headed in the wrong direction.

When I was at the beach I didn't feel like I was in the wrong place but maybe my dream was telling me that if I am headed in the wrong direction just to ride out the situation on my surfboard and trust my own inner wisdom to guide me.

Dreaming of Farm Animals

image by Katie In my dream we are selling our house. But one morning I wake up to find that our neighbours' pigs and goats have taken up residence in our backyard. I was concerned that the buyer would not be impressed by this.

This dream relates to things going on in my waking life. Our house has been sold and our neighbours do have a plethora of animals (cats and dogs) that come in our yard and irritate me. But why would my dream add the symbols of the additional farm animals? Does this have any meaning?

Symbols having to do with a farm generally represent a down to earth or basic needs feeling in our dreams.

Goats have long been recognized with feelings of sexuality on a base level. Pigs also represent base needs and passions.

So what is my dream telling me? I've talked about Dreaming of A House in a previous post but basically it represents your own psyche, yourself. In my dream the animals have taken up residence outside the home and I am concerned about what that would look like to potential buyers. I think this means that I am concerned that outsiders will be able to observe my base nature and I'm worried about what they might think. I'm not aware of feeling this way but the dream will help me to be aware of this potential in my life.

Dreaming of Doors

I am standing in front of two large wooden doors (Medieval style). I become aware that I am dreaming. As I push open the heavy doors I can feel the weight in my hands. The doors have opened into a dark room but there is another set of doors at the end. As I walk towards them I can feel the sensation in my feet. These doors are a bit different - the door is metal and the handles are steel. As
I pull them open I can feel the texture in my hand. I am apprehensive and excited. What will be on the other side of the door? Some great insight or future possibility? The doors open into blackness. I take a step into the abyss and jump...

Dreaming of opening a door usually represents a change or transition in life. It could also be moving from one consciousness into the next. Carl Jung saw this dream as opening a door into the individuated self.

The state of the door can give you a clue to the dream. An old, wooden door could symbolize old or traditional ideas while a metal door could represent the future.

The scene that the door opens to can tell you what changes you could be facing. For example, a door opening into a beautiful field could symbolize abundance while a door opening into a ghetto might represent loss or depression.

In dreams, doors can be broken, locked or impossible to open. To dream of opening a door means you are ready to take a chance and venture into the unknown - whatever that may bring.
